Week 2: Baking cookies3/3/2024 This was my first week of baking for the project. I started with something simple and delicious, I made cookies. Every time I bake cookies I buy the same Betty Crocker cookie dough but since I will be experiencing different recipes and ingredients I changed it up and got the Toll House cookie dough this time. There are some differences I noticed between the two cookie doughs. The Betty Crocker Cookie dough already comes in square-like cookie dough shapes so you can just put them on a pan and it saves time. The Toll House comes in a sausage-like packaging so you have to cut the cookie dough yourself and roll them how you prefer.
After experiencing both types of cookie dough I prefer the Toll House brand. The Toll House is packaged so that you can control the shape and size of the cookies you would like to bake. It makes it easier to keep track of the same shape and size of the cookies when it comes time to put them on a baking sheet to bake in the oven. There are about 6 steps to making these cookies. It sounds like a lot of steps just to make cookies but they are short and simple tasks. The first step is to wash your hands. The second step is to get a flat pan out and grease it. I use Pam so they don't stick to the pan and it’ll be easier to take them off when they finish cooking. Third, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Fourth, cut the dough into the amount and size you desire. Fifth step, When you finish cutting enough dough to fit on the pan you can roll them into ball-like shapes and place them on the pan with ½ inch apart. Finally, once the oven has finished preheating you can cook them for 10 minutes and enjoy!!

Week 1: Introduction to baking2/21/2024 ![]() This is the first week of my 12-week project. I have used this time to finalize what recipes and types of meals I want to prepare for my family and me. I have browsed on other websites to find recipes other than cake pops to change it up every week. I have found many different dinner and dessert recipes to prepare. This past week, I chose a recipe, looking through cookbooks and online recipes. I looked through the kitchen to see if I had the correct utensils. I checked for vanilla cake mix, chocolate melts, and lollipop sticks. I analyzed the total amount of time the cake pops will take. This includes prep time, bake time, and the time it takes to decorate it. I am working on familiarizing myself with the common preparation and baking techniques. The different meals I plan on making vary in ingredients and skill. The challenge for me is to use my time-management skills properly. I am usually consistent with getting assignments completed but I plan on doing my projects on the weekend so I feel like I will forget. I have a calendar in my room on which I will write down what days to perform the cooking so I have time. I am nervous to see how my cake pops will first turn out. I have made these cake pops many times and every time I make them they don’t turn out the way I have hoped to look. I am nervous that if I see they don’t turn out the way I want the first time I will want to give up. Every time I come across to make these cake pops again I get so confident and then I decide to make them and they turn out horrible which makes me want to never make them again. I am hoping this project will help my frustration with making these cake pops and more importantly help me make the best cake pops. |
